Next Steps: Board Members!
I've been blown away by the response I've gotten since launching Butterflies Beyond Borders - not just the public response from all of you, but the big things happening behind the scenes that I can't quite announce yet! Because of this, I am moving forward with my next step for BBB much earlier than I had originally thought. I'm so excited, and am also realizing that while I could try and do this alone, these butterfly children would be much better served by a representation of the whole community that is rallying around them. So that leads me to my next endeavor - a quest for board members!
I put the unofficial call out yesterday on social media and had an incredible response. As incredibly eager as I am to move quickly so we can do more and more, I also want to be very intentional about everything I'm doing and ensure that it's being done well.
Below are some general thoughts of what I imagine our board to do and some general thoughts on the organization. If you are interested in becoming a board member, please read the following and email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and answer the questions listed below by August 31 at 11:59pm (EST).
General roles of board members (these will be finalized by the board when it has been assembled)
Uphold the mission and vision of BBB, promoting the organization and advocating for EB orphans
Provide feedback on and assist with the finalization of mission and vision statement, assist with creation of bylaws
Assist with process in becoming a 501(c)3 non-profit organization
Once we are a 501(c)3, oversee the financial aspects of the organization, provide input on how money should be spent
Brainstorm ideas and new endeavors on how we can grow and continue to advocate for these children
Provide feedback on partnerships, fundraisers, etc.
Optional - organize or assist with fundraising/awareness projects!
The other part that I want to be sure to mention is that I strongly believe that God has put EB on my heart and has led me to spearhead this initiative. I am a Christian, and that is an important part of my life. BBB is not an outright Christian initiative and does not discriminate in any way based on religion (or any other factors!), but my beliefs have led me into this work and will continue to be a part of it. We have a page on the website listing prayer requests and it will be a part of our monthly newsletter that is sent out at the beginning of each month. I will likely continue to write about this in my blog and Facebook posts. You do not have to be a Christian or have any religious beliefs to be involved with BBB or to be a board member, but I do ask that you respect this aspect of the organization, even if you do not agree with it. If you have any concerns or questions about that, I would love to talk with you further about it.
If all of this is still sounding good to you, please email me with the following information...
Location (city, state, country)
Please provide 2-3 sentences about why you're interested in serving in this way and your passion for orphans living with EB
Please provide 1-3 sentences about any unique strengths, talents, skills, ideas, connections, etc. that you may bring to BBB
PLEASE NOTE: I would love to be able to take everyone who's interested for the board, and I do not foresee having to turn anyone down, but that final decision will be made once I have a better idea of how many people are interested. I hope to have this finalized by the time I send the September newsletter at the beginning of the month, but will have to play it by ear depending on how many people continue to express interest.
*If I emailed this to you and you've already responded, no need to respond again.
The interest period will end on August 31st and board members will be announced shortly after that. Please feel free to share this with anyone you feel may be interested! Thank you for your commitment to these precious orphans.
